Event Description
Thursday evenings, bring a blanket and a picnic and join us in Centennial Park for great music in the beautiful setting of Ganges Harbour — exceptional musical acts from across British Columbia alongside local island talent.
Mikey Jose:
A combination of retro soul and modern R&B/pop flair, Mikey Jose’s familiar yet novel sound has been turning heads internationally and catching the attention of major global talent. Drawing comparisons to soulful heavy hitters like Stevie Wonder and Leon Bridges, Jose carves his own lane that blends generational sounds while injecting his own fresh take on growing up in modern times. His latest collaborative single release “Making It Right” with Augie Bello and Harrison Finks is a testament to this, landing on Spotify editorial playlists “Retro Pop”, “NuFunk”, and “Soul in the City” next to similar sounds like Allen Stone, MAX, and Samm Henshaw.
Mikey and his band, known as “Mikey Jose and The Bungalow”, have performed sold-out shows in Vancouver’s biggest venues, from providing electric direct support performances for NYC’s soul-pop stars, Lawrence, to “[bringing] the house down” at local and international music festivals (Virgin Radio Vancouver). Jose is working on his sophomore EP (“beautiful life”) and debut full-length LP, both of which are set to roll out beginning in 2023.
Cowichan Tzinquaw Dancers:
The Tzinquaw Dancers are an intergenerational dance troupe, honouring the traditional Quw’utsun dance and songs from the Cowichan Valley. Formed in the early 1960s, they embody and empower cultural identity and the Hul’qumi’num language, through the large and elaborate dances that have been taught to them by their Elders.
