Event Description
The Seamus Egan Project is the creation of master Irish traditional musician Seamus Egan, who rose to prominence when he founded the Irish-American powerhouse group Solas in the 1990s and early 2000s. He became known beyond folk circles through his work on the soundtrack for the film The Brothers McMullen, including a co-write with Sarah McLachlan for the huge hit “I Will Remember You”.
It’s hard to think of an artist in traditional Irish music more influential than Seamus Egan. From his beginnings as a teen prodigy, to his groundbreaking solo work with Shanachie Records, to his current work as one of the leading composers and interpreters of the tradition, Egan has inspired multiple generations of musicians and helped define the sound of Irish music today.
The Seamus Egan Project features multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Moira Smiley and composer/ producer/ guitarist Kyle Sanna
Moira Smiley's music has been influenced by folk styles, shape-note singing, classical song, and jazz. She’s performed and collaborated with various artists including Billy Childs, Solas, Jayme Stone's The Lomax Project and often tours with eclectic indie-pop group Tune-Yards.
As a guitarist, Kyle Sanna primarily performs improvised music and traditional Irish music. He has shared the stage or studio with many of today’s virtuosos, including multiple Grammy Award-winning artists Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer, and Chris Thile, as well as with some of the greatest living interpreters of the Irish tradition including Kevin Burke, Martin Hayes, and Seamus Egan.
Local vocalists Karla Mundy and Jennifer Scott will also join in.
Concert is live & streamed.
