Event Description

K.C.V.I. Alumnus Brings Freak Rock To Musiikki

K.C.V.I. graduate Brandon Vasko is revitalizing Canada's alternative rock scene by bringing his unique style of "freak rock" to Musiikki on October 9, 2021 with his band, The Maximum Chill.

The Maximum Chill is an eclectic "freak rock" band from Montreal. Playing everything from rock to jazz to modern classical and everything in between, they draw from the last century of modern music, shove it all into a blender, and toss it out on stage for your enjoyment.
(Freak rock) is less a musical style and more of an attitude. It's about allowing yourself to do the things you want to and be the person you are without fear of social stigma or judgement. For me that's writing music that goes all over the place and dressing and acting the way I do which might seem weird to some people, and for our fans, our concerts are a safe place where people can break free and freak out a little.
~ Brandon Vasko

The event is free to enter and will be taking place from 8pm-11pm in the courtyard of Musiikki. Vasko and The Maximum Chill will be performing three sets of their eclectic brand of music that is inspired by  classical, jazz, metal, rock and comedy, alongside some familiar cover songs with fresh arrangements. The Maximum Chill has been compared to Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, Ween, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and Grateful Dead.
