Event Description

Caught up in his girlfriend’s desire to take their relationship to the next level and his father’s misguided encouragement, Jake (Cardi Wong) is stressed by the feeling that his future is being forced upon him. In the midst of this pressure, Aleks, a confident new neighbour with a love of basketball, moves in next door, and Jake experiences a newfound attraction that seems to conflict with what everyone expects from him. Navigating high school drama in an age of social media while doing his best to please everyone, Jake is forced to come to terms with who he is and what life he wants to lead, knowing those closest to him might get hurt in the process. Writer/director Jason Karman crafts a contemporary Vancouver coming-of-age story with a terrific ensemble cast driven by Wong’s performance that captures the complexity of living up to cultural and familial expectations while trying to define yourself. Winner of Outstanding Feature film and Best Director at the Reelworld Film Festival, Golden Delicious brings a fresh perspective to familiar territory.
