Event Description

Embark on a theatrical adventure with Montreal’s NO HAY BANDA as they perform Steven Kazuo Takasugi’s Sideshow, currently on a national tour. In this hour-long work of music theatre, the musicians transform into dark sideshow characters from Coney Island’s amusement parks of the early 20th century. Framed in a chamber music performance, Sideshow is a meditation on virtuosity, freak shows, entertainment, spectacle, business, and the sacrifices one makes to survive in the world.

NO HAY BANDA is a Montreal-based non-profit organization committed to the production and performance of music rooted in exploratory and avant-garde practices. NO HAY BANDA presents an annual concert series in Montreal that features a variety of local and visiting artists, and represents a variable ensemble that performs and tours original productions. Throughout these activities, NO HAY BANDA aims to provide a space for artists working on the fringes of established genres to realize projects that would not take place otherwise.
