Event Description

NY legend Willie Nile and his Allstar band featuring guitarist Jimi K. Bones make a rare Vancouver Island appearance at the Mary Winspear Theatre on Friday August 12th with special guests Stephen Stanley formerly of Lowest of the Low and Chris Bennet.
Critics favourite east coast rocker with superstar superfans like Bruce Springsteen, Bono and Van Morrison plays two shows on Vancouver Island, Friday night in Sidney at the Mary Winspear Theatre and Saturday night at the Queen Nanaimo.
Willie Nile came out of the post-punk scene in NYC, early on the comparisons were to the Replacements and the Clash but over his career he has moved into straight up rock and roll with social conscience and street poet lyrics. This century critics have raved about a run of ten albums late in life that pick up the flame of real rock played with punk kerning and intensity as WIllie's best days have been on the other side of 60. You can expect to see everything from Bob Dylan covers, to his early hit Vagabond Moon which led him to open for the Who in 1980 and again this past May in Woodstock. His most recent album the Day the Earth Stood Still featuring the single Blood On your Hands with Steve Earle is a withering critique of Trump's playing down the pandemic and speaks to New York as the epicentre came to a screeching halt in 2020.
Opening the show 90's alt-rock hero Stephen Stanley from Toronto who was the former frontman for one the best bands from that era The Lowest of the Low who has played Victoria on many occasions along with the Violent Femmes, Loyd Cole and the Jayhawks. Two great acts, one low dough price. Tickets are available now at MaryWinspear.ca for Willie Nile with Stephen Stanley, Friday, August 12th.
