Event Description
The Mercury Players present Ronald Harwood's delightful and heart-warming comedy about four retired opera singers , Quartet. Directed by Leslie Sanchez, this play is full of wicked and saucy humour about art and growing old. Three long-time friends, Cecily, Reggie, and Wilf are living out their days in a home for retired musicians. They are looking forward to performing in a concert celebration, for their fellow residents, to mark composer Verdi's birthday. Their peace is shattered when Reggie's ex-wife and former Grand Dame Soprano, Jean, unexpectedly moves in. Her arrival stirs up painful memories and she tends to speak her mind with hurtful (and hilarious) results. Diva Jean is the missing piece to the group's third act quartet from Rigoletto, which they all famously sang in their prime. Can these feisty troopers defy the years and shine together once more?
Quartet runs May 5-15, with Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday May 14 at 7:30 pm and Saturday May 7 and Sundays at 2:30 pm at the Mercury Theatre 331 Brae Road, Duncan.
