Event Description
Keeping the flame burning, while keeping your feet tapping and your soul replenished. CanUS & Friends is a group of Victoria’s most revered traditional jazz musicians who love sharing that wonderful genre of New Orleans Jazz, & Blues with you. Trio vocals made CanUS popular throughout the world of Dixieland Jazz Festivals. These are musicians who celebrate the era of music loved by Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, Benny Goodman, to name only a few. Tunes you will recognize with a rhythm to feel, strong and true.
Trumpet played by Alfons Fear, bringing you those loved melodies, with the addition of some vocals , and boosted by the Benny Goodman-esque clarinet of Al Pease. Recent arrivals to Victoria are Simon Stribling on trombone & alto (try googling his name and -wow!) and Laurie Lyster, a Vancouver star on drums. Avram McCagherty brings a sparkle to any of the many bands he leads and we get to enjoy him, too. His banjo and vocals are a treasure for our city. Underpinning it all is the one of the best bass players you will find anywhere, Joey Smith. To finish and embellish is the early jazz piano style of Toni Blodgett, leader.
Bring a friend - book a table and away we’ll go, back to our history of good times together again.
