“The Turning Point—One Artist’s Journey” is a solo art show by mixed media artist Barb DeRousie. This is the first time this work has been exhibited together and Barb invites you to take in her newfound way of making art and feel the freedom she feels when making it.
Barb spent several years painting with watercolour in a representational style, entering several shows such as the RAW Ovation Art Show in 2018 and a solo art show at the Westridge Gallery, Victoria, BC, and doing many commissions.
Barb’s curiosity about using acrylic medium and painting more abstractly led her to sign up for a free 5 day workshop by Art2Life founder and abstract artist, Nicholas Wilton. ( Sign up for the free 2022 Workshop by clicking on this link https://tellafriend.affiliatedash.com/a/a2lworkshop2022/Barb). Following that workshop in 2020, Barb signed up for a 12 week intensive online art course called the Creative Visionary Program led by Nicholas Wilton and his team, and that changed everything!
The art that resulted was a complete turnaround for Barb, not only in medium and style, but also in the process—this new way of art-making “is the most fun [she’s] had in years!”
Drop in to The Arts Centre at Cedar Hill to see, not only over 30 of Barb’s paintings, but other smaller works including art on paper mounted on wood boxes and “wearable art” earrings! (See in display cabinet next to gallery). Check out Barb’s Etsy shop at this link: https://etsy/shop/ArtByBarbStore for a full inventory of her art.
Barb shares her enthusiasm for this new way of making art with her local and international community by hosting events on Meetup.com in the group called Courageous Creativity Abstract Painting (link: https://www.meetup.com/courageous-creativity-abstract-painting).
Meet Barb in person when she is in attendance at the gallery—Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:00-4:00pm for the duration of the show until February 13th.
