Doug is a painter and collage artist based in Victoria, BC, on the unceded Coast Salish Territory of the Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ nations. In 2010 he transitioned from a career in television animation to a full time painting practice. Doug works with anonymous, amateur photographs that he sifts from the internet, then, using photo editing software and AI, alters and distort them. In this current series of paintings, Doug endeavours to create narratives that oscillate between reality and a slippery space, full of unfamiliar beings and strange energy, a world of chaos and entropy, creation and collapse.
