Guided by Nature Sketch artist and naturalist Jen Burgess, this 8-week course will introduce watercolour materials and techniques to help you add a splash of colour to your nature journaling. We will learn various techniques such as washes, glazing, dry-brushing, wet-into-wet, various ways to create textures, paint-resist/masking; we will go further into compositions, value, colour theory and colour mixing. But most importantly we will learn how to plan your composition and execute your process. Watercolour is a fun mental challenge so come prepared to think! Because this is not a drawing class, for subject matter we will mainly be working from public domain or credited reference images (or your own completed sketches and/or photographs if you’re feeling adventurous) of various nature-themed subject matter.
All classes will be made available to stream asynchronously if you cannot make the times listed! Instructors are also available by email for individual critiques or questions outside of class time.
