Guitarist Charlie Hunter and vocalist Lucy Woodward joined forces in 2018, and the chemistry was undeniable, releasing their debut album Music!Music!Music! in 2019. They bring their thrilling intensity to reimagining blues hits by Blind Willie Johnson, Bessie Smith, and Nina Simone’s soulful songs and jazz standards, popularized by Ella Fitzgerald and Teresa Brewer. Charlie Hunter is widely considered the authority on the seven and eight string guitar. Lucy Woodward has released albums on the legendary jazz label Verve, and after much collaboration with Snarky Puppy, she released albums on their label, GroundUP Music. Hunter and Woodward now tour as a trio with a drummer.
Guitarist Julian Lage has acquired a prolific resume as sideman, duo partner, soloist and bandleader. Love Hurts, Lage’s 2019 album which marks his third Mack Avenue LP recorded with a trio, sees the three-time Grammy nominee exploring the American song catalogue from a truly unique vantage point, building upon the wandering sonic outlook of jazz fusion, jam band liberation, standards, and rock ‘n’ roll with virtuosic precision and a remarkably clear vision.
The dazzling interplay between Lucy Woodward’s voice and Charlie Hunter’s guitar, followed by the thrilling Julian Lage Trio, will provide an evening showcasing two of the best guitar-based performances that the music world has to offer.
