Event Description
The staff at Blue Frog will be watching the JUNO Awards on March 15th with keen interest in the Contemporary Roots Album of the Year Category. There are two albums of particular interest; our perennial favourite performer Lee Harvey Osmond for his fabulous “Mohawk” album, and the other from a soon to be new to Blue Frog artist, Del Barber.
On April 19th Del makes his Blue Frog debut along with Singer-Songstress Mariel Buckley.
With nominations for JUNO Awards, Western Canadian Music Awards, and Canadian Folk Music Awards - Del Barber has shaped the folk music canon in Canada with five critically acclaimed studio albums under his belt, as well as a myriad of fans. His new album 'Easy Keeper’ released on acronym records, has received critical acclaim from Rolling Stone Magazine and No Depression, and a nomination for a 2020 JUNO award.
WCMA Roots Artist of the Year, Mariel Buckley’s momentum has built quickly, and she finds herself as one of alt-country’s busiest acts, with recent performances in support of k.d. lang, Hayes Carll, Sarah Shook & The Disarmers, The Deep Dark Woods and Serena Ryder; as well as entertaining audiences throughout North America. She just won the $100,000. Project Wild Grand Prize and proves that she is an artist truly coming into her own and ready to take on the world; poetically plainspoken highs and lows, long nights and hard days, are all filtered through Mariel’s wry, no-bullshit perspective. She could have chosen to chase a slicker, more polished sound built for radio and arenas, but instead, she doubled down on the grit and the truth in her music. It’s honesty that brought her to this point and honesty that will continue to carry her into the future.
