The Highlands Music Coffee House is held on the 2nd Saturday...
Open / Operational
Event Description
We will start with open mic segment and then after the coffee break we will feature the band "The Carolina Bluebirds".
The Carolina Bluebirds got their start playing cheerful ragtime songs of the 1920s and ‘30s, and introducing audiences to rarely-heard gems that were popular in their time. Their repertoire has broadened to include folk, swing, and jazz music written by Joni Mitchell and other artists from the latter half of the century, as well as some original tunes. (The CBBs can be easily swayed by good music of almost any genre!) The Bluebirds have entertained audiences at the Island Folk Festival and markets, folk clubs and coffee houses around Victoria.
Caroline Covil (vocals and percussion) is joined by Graeme Card (guitar, vocals), and Ian Johnston (guitar, ukulele and banjo ukulele). Ian and Graeme are long-time musicians in Victoria: you may have seen Ian playing with Rig-A-Jig, The Slowpokes and The Garden City Blue Blowers; and Graeme with The Jug Bandits, The Chattering Class, and Humphrey and the Dump Trucks. Caroline’s beautiful soprano voice and warm delivery suit the music perfectly and nicely balances the ragtime guitar picking.
