Johannes Brahms composed lieder throughout his career. His earliest songs through to his last ones are supremely expressive and superbly crafted. Surprisingly, only a few of them are frequently performed. Lieder at Lunch, featuring husband-and-wife duo, soprano Sharon Krebs and pianist Harald Krebs, presents a cross-section of Brahms’s lieder output, including many unknown gems as well as some familiar songs. Prominent violist and conductor Yariv Aloni will join for a performance of one of Brahms’s two songs with viola, and UVic School of Music alumna Deanna Sills will collaborate in one of Brahms’s delightful vocal duets.
This popular concert series is devoted to the exploration of the rich repertoire of German art songs (lieder). Their performances are often augmented with talk, projected images and text translations. Bring your lunch!
