Event Description

Ben Parker on trumpet, accompanied by Christine Purvis on organ, present music by Haydn, Boehm, Ketting, Sweelinck and Frescobaldi, and a trumpet arrangement of “Someone to watch over me”. http://standrewsvictoria.ca/?page_id=5666

Ben Parker started playing trumpet after a successful trip to a music store in Izmir, Turkey, when he was 7 years old. Mostly self-taught until the age of 10, he developed a musical foundation based on playing his favorite vocal melodies on trumpet. Ben moved from Turkey to Vancouver and then Victoria, studying with various teachers. Along the way he has played with the Victoria Symphony as a soloist and an ensemble member, won the brass category of the Canadian National Music Festival, and visit many places because of his music, including New York, Chicago, and Montreal. Ben is currently studying with Merrie Klazek at UVic, were his foundation of playing vocal melodies is synergistic with Merrie's teaching focus of "Wind and Song”.
