Event Description
With a brand-new album currently in the works, Emily Braden is electrifying NYC and international audiences alike with her fresh, soulful sound and powerful stage presence. Her original music, co-created with pianist Misha Piatigorsky, effortlessly blends heavy grooves and carefully-crafted lyrics with soaring vocals and off the cuff bilingual improvisations. Braden called Vancouver Island home for the better part of a decade, where she received her Masters degree in Latin American Studies. This weekend is sponsored in part by the Hispanic and Italian Studies Department of the University of Victoria and will feature a selection Latin American repertoire. "Winner of New York City's 'Best of the Best' Jazzmobile Vocal Competition, this NYC-based vocalist is fearless in her exploration of the human voice as an instrument through a concept she likes to call “big intimacy.” No two sets are the same. See Braden live and she’ll make you a believer.
