Points of Resonance is a multimedia installation building on an ongoing body of work I call “Fabric Landscapes”. This installation draws inspiration from the field of archaeoacoustics, looking at the sound-mapping of caves containing palaeolithic drawings, in the consideration of the notion of ancient spiritual encounter. The installation integrates a variety of visual and sound-based components which point to the correspondence between the acoustic hot spots - or “points of resonance” - and the location of the metaphysical imagery found in many of these ancient caves.

“Points of Resonance” stems from a questioning of whether we are ancient or contemporary people, and aims to create an immersive, contemplative, and inward-looking environment.

Marina DiMaio is a Canadian contemporary visual artist currently based in Victoria, BC. She holds a BFA with a Studio Concentration from the University of Calgary, and an MFA in Visual Arts from the University of Victoria. Her work centers on notions of spirituality and contemplative practice, integrating drawing, printmaking, textiles, video and soundscapes in the creation of multi-sensual environments which aim to suggest a reciprocity between internal and external landscapes.
Marina was recently awarded an Early Career Development Grant by the BC Arts Council which has given her the opportunity to intern as a Curatorial Assistant at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, on a major multi-phase research and exhibition project titled, "In the Present Moment: Buddhism, Contemporary Art, and Social Practice." She is a sessional instructor of drawing, painting, and printmaking at Vancouver Island School of Art, and her work is held in the collections of the Nickle Galleries and the Glenbow Museum.

the fifty fifty arts collective is comprised of individuals living and working on unceded and occupied First Nations Territories, specifically the lands of the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations, as well as the W̱SÁNEĆ, Sc'ianew and T'Souke First Nations.

The programming space itself is situated on Songhees and Esquimalt Territory but engages with individuals and communities across Turtle Island.

As a collective we endeavour to deepen our own understandings of how we are implicated in the history and in the present ongoing project of settler colonialism. As members of the fifty fifty arts collective we continually responsibilize ourselves to the complex kind of space that is the fifty fifty which hosts and facilitates the dissemination of the ideas and work of others.
