Event Description
Jennifer Lawson is a well known Canadian artist recognized for her beautiful watercolours of flowering gardens, charming homes, country farms and antiques. Their refreshing impressionism and inviting images are radiant with light and colour.
Jennifer was born in Yorkshire, and at an early age she began to soak up the brilliant colours around her, the warm tones rampantly spilling around country cottages.
Having studied and travelled extensively, Jennifer obtained two Honours Arts degrees from the University of Guelph and Georgian College. Jennifer received the scholarship for highest achievement and best student at the latter, before going on to study further at the Ontario College of Art and the Schneider School of Fine Art.
Her sense of colour is informed both by the warm tangle of English country gardens and the intricate patterns of Indian textiles. Jennifer’s paintings are in many private and corporate collections as far away as Japan.
Jennifer paints solely in watercolour on pure rag paper. A plein air painter, her art reveals her as an optimist who is absorbed in the beauty around her.
Her awards are numerous including Best Painting at Discovery 11 Exhibition in Toronto, Best in Show in Barrie, Ottawa, Winnipeg and Edmonton and Awards of Merit from the B.C. Regional Show. Jennifer was selected to attend the World Crafts Conference in Toronto ,1973, the Salon des Metiers exhibit in Montreal 1980 and was fortunate enough to study under Carl Schaefer (a Group of Seven Associate), Charles Reid(U.S.A.) and Zoltan Szabo, amongst many others.
Jennifer is also the founder of the 1st Studio Tour outside of Ontario, where her colleagues started the 1st tour in North America.
Jennifer was thrilled to be chosen recently as Bermuda’s Artist in Residence – and has just returned from a glorious winter there.
