Victoria, BC: This year, International Women’s Day (March 8) will be well celebrated with over 95 local women artists, sharing their powerful and thought provoking imagery as part of the Strong Women, Strong World art exhibition, sponsored by the Victoria Arts Council (VAC).
The event gathers many of Victoria’s most esteemed female artists to create a collaborative visual representation of the positive power of women coming together in the Victoria area. The exhibit will be on display at The Bay Centre (lower level, next to Ardene). “We wanted to create a feeling of a crowd of women standing together, standing proud and strong. We believe that the strength of women of all cultures, abilities and ages can help ignite social justice and awareness throughout the world,” said Stephanie Eisenbraun, VAC Executive Director.
This impressive roster of participating artists includes Honorary Guest, Pat Martin Bates, Phyllis Serota, Kathleen McPhail, Angela Menzies, Katerina Meglic, Jenna Tucker among many others. The exhibition will also feature a speakers series on Sunday, March 4th from 2-4pm with short talks and poetry performances related to the exhibitions central theme of Strong Women, Strong World. The exhibition’s opening reception will take place on March 1 from 6:30-8:30pm. This free event is wheelchair accessible and open to the public.
