Arts & Industry Open House - Rock Bay Square
Victoria, BC - November 17 and 1...
Victoria, BC - November 17 and 17, 2017 - Tucked in among the recycling depots just east of the Bay Street Bridge, a nondescript, three story building buzzes daily with creative activity. Here, First Nations artists carve modern versions of traditional masks, painters daub oil and acrylic paints on canvas, leather crafter sew belts and bags.
On November 17 and 18, twenty three artists and makers at Rock Bay Square - from furniture makers to jewelers, to makers of re-usable bees wax food wrap - are opening their studio doors to the public, just in time for the holiday season.
They invite you to come and join the conviviality, ask them questions about their craft, and watch them in action. Who knows? Perhaps Rock Bay Square is where you’ll find that unique gift - for yourself or someone else. (Please bring cash or cheques as not all of the artists/artisans are set-up for credit or debit)
The Open House will run from 4 to 8pm on Friday, November 17, and from 12 to 4pm Saturday, November 18.
There will be food to nibble and beverages to sip.
Originally built in the 1920s, Rock Bay Square began as part of a mill, and boasts one of Victoria’s oldest freight elevators. It is located at 2614 Bridge Street (between John St and Hillside Ave) Free one hour, and unlimited parking is available on the surrounding streets. Buses 10 and 14 stop nearby
