Event Description

The Garden City Electronic Music Society's Wonderment series comes to the Beacon Hill Park Cameron Bandshell for a special edition featuring live performances of ambient dub...

Berlin's Deadbeat is a Canadian expat who has contributed a significant body of work that has advanced both the concept and execution of electronic dub music. He has released on numerous labels including full length releases on ~scape, Resident Advisor, Wagon Repair, and his own label BLKRTZ. Deadbeat has collaborated with many of the heavyweights of the international dub scene, including Paul St Hillaire (Tikiman of Rhythm & Sound / Basic Channel) and remixes for Lee Scratch Perry and The Orb.

Vancouver's Jordan Segue originally hails from Edmonton and has released music on Vancouver Island label Silent Season since 2013 and has EP releases on various labels dating back to 2006. His debut album on Silent Season ranked #5 in the top 20 albums of 2013 on Resident Advisor. The music of Segue is a combination of many styles and influences, but the end result fits comfortably within the ambient and dub-techno genres of electronic music. The sounds used in each composition are carefully chosen, consisting of field recordings, acoustic instruments and electronic sound sources.

Victoria's Dub Gnostic has been an advocate for dub variants of electronic music since his arrival on the west coast in 1997. Locally known for his music curation at Neptune Soundbar (under Swan's hotel 2000-2001), he was also one of the first ambient DJs of the early 90s Toronto electronic music scene. He has releases on the Mosaic Records UK Rhythm & Dubs Series, and more recently Vancouver's Woodwork Recordings.

This event is a free event and features live electronic music performances of ambient dub. All ages are welcome to attend. Dress for the weather - whether sunny or not - and bring your own water and snacks as there are no concessions in Beacon Hill Park. Please "pack-it-in, pack-it out" and remember - there is a no smoking rule in all Victoria Public Parks.
