Ishmael Muslim Ali (formerly LaBeet) was not a nice man. He will tell you himself that when he was a youngster, he ran around with a bad crowd. He'll even cop to the fact he hijacked a plane. But what he will also always tell you is that he didn't kill eight people on a Rockfeller-owned golf course in the US Virgin Islands. And, he will tell it to you from the safety of his Cuban island home surrounded by friends and family, well away from long arm of the FBI.
His is a story for the true crime fan in all of us.
With unprecedented access to one of one the most wanted men in the world, director Jamie Kastner takes us inside Ishmael's life and times from the ground up. Starting with his upbringing in the racially and financially divided US Virgin Islands. We hear how he tried to get justice from within an unjust system, and get a walkthrough of his 1984 aerial escape from custody in his own words.
But is he really a criminal or just another victim? You will have to decide for yourself. However, with the United States' ever-softening relationship with Cuba, Ishmael's fate isn't decided yet either.
