Event Description
The Shawnigan Players’ Christmas pantomime is back – now with more frilly frocks! Bring the kids down to the Mercury Theatre for that silliest of holiday traditions, the panto. This year’s pantomime is the classic fairy tale, “Cinderella.” Directors Laura Faulkner (dir. Rumplestiltskin, Anne of Green Gables) and Irwin Killam (President, Cowichan Musical Society) have teamed up to bring you a rollicking, colourful, theatrical treat. Cheer the heroes, boo the villains, and clap along to familiar tunes as the Shawnigan Players shake their booties all the way to the Palace!
The highly talented Ali Platt makes her Shawnigan Players debut as the downtrodden Cinders, opposite the very charming Prince, Mahalia Benty (last seen as Titania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.) Local favourites Alex Gallacher (dir. Midsummer, August: Osage County) and Bill Levity (Midsummer, Twelfth Night) are hilarious as the horrid stepsisters, Bob Norris (Osage County, Romeo and Juliet) is a lovable if absent-minded palace servant, and Gord Levin (Osage County, As You Like It) delights as the dainty Fairy Godmother. The show boasts a lively chorus whose pop-up song-and-dance routines will have you bopping in your seats. And look for local musical comedy legend Ian Rothnie in a surprise cameo!
“Cinderella - the Pantomime” runs December 26 – December 31 at the Mercury Theatre, 331 Brae Rd. in Duncan. Show times are 7:30pm Dec. 26 – 30 and 2:00pm Dec. 26 and Dec. 31. All seats are $10. Tickets are available at Ten Old Books, Mason’s store in Shawnigan Lake, or you can reserve tickets online by emailing [email protected].
