Event Description

Join our community for another evening of readings and performances.

Our open mic welcomes all forms of artistic expression (as long as you express yourself in under five minutes!). So bring essays, poetry, monologues, jokes...

The Rabbit Hole is fundraising! Please support our work via our indiegogo campaign.

November features:

KEIKO HART - stageplay

Keiko Hart is a UVic graduate who has formerly worked as editor-in-chief of This Side of West, executive editor at The Warren, and is co-founder and creative director of Continental Shelf Writers’ Collective. Her involvement in the writing community has lead her to connect with Open Word: Readings and Ideas, where she helps organize reading events. Her plays have been produced by SATCo at the Phoenix Theatre and lighting and set designer Alan Brodie. She is passionate about art and design, and currently balances working as graphic designer and social media strategist for Concept-CCI with her work as a photojournalist and writer for Holy Smokes Music.

In GRAVE IMPORTANCE, Sam David travels to the fictional town of Vilkhovetsz, Olkhovetsz, in the Ukraine in order to bury his deceased grandmother. He enlists the help of young rabbi Uri Taitelbaum, a man determined to prove his rabbinical title, and discovers intimate things about his grandmother's past as well as his cultural and religious identity.

MAX JOHNSON - essay

Max Johnson is the former associate artistic producer at Theatre SKAM, a founding member of Hawk Mom Productions, and a founding editor for The Marble theatre review site. He holds a degree in theatre and writing (UVic, 2014) where he focused on screenwriting and directing. He is the winner of the W. P. Kinsella award for fiction and multiple Sunscreen Film Festival awards. Max has twice participated in Intrepid's Theatre Under the Gun.

Max's new piece examines how politics became reality TV, and vice versa.

CARSON REDDEN - fiction

Carson Redden is a UVic philosophy student and former fiction editor for The Warren Review.
