Peggy Lee's Echo Painting & J.P Carter (solo set)
In 2015 Coastal Jazz commissioned Peggy Lee to compose a suite of music for a new 10 piece ensemble. Echo Painting was originally premiered at the 2016 edition of the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, and will be performed live at the WISE Hall on Thursday, November 3rd.
With many colours to draw upon, this suite of new compositions by Peggy Lee features music that is multi-layered, texturally varied and melodically rich. The 10 piece ensemble covers a lot of sonic ground from lush big band sounds to Stravinsky inspired chamber music to atmospheric improvisation and a classic tune by the Band.

J.P Carter (solo)
JP Carter (Destroyer, Fond of Tigers, Dan Mangan, Inhabitants) is a vital contributor to Vancouver's music community. JP incorporates a variety of techniques into his trumpet playing, utilizing and experimenting with acoustic and electronic methods to create a wide spectrum of sound; a sound described by BrooklynVegan as "epic and weird and amazing".
The solo setting provides an excellent platform for JP's effected & amplified trumpet work.
