NOT YET YEDI
The floor was covered with splinters and smashed teeth but the cave looked completely deserted. I figured it had been empty for at least a month judging by the amount of dust that had settled on everything. I reached down to pick up a small piece of silver that caught my eye. Small but valuable. I could get a month's worth of food for it. Suddenly I wondered if someone would be back for it. No one has much of anything these days, let alone precious metals. That's when I saw its eyes light up in the dark corner of the room. I ran but tripped and tumbled down, down, down into a even darker cavern. Scraped and bloodied, I checked for broken bones. I knew it could smell my blood. My foot was broken but I had to keep moving. It took me three days but eventually I made it out alive. I'll never go back to that mountain again. I won't even go close. And I never sold that silver either. I buried it and haven't gone looking for it. Well, at least that's what I tell people.
MINE AGENTE
Mine Agente is an installation performance that explores consumption, materialism, identity, value, fast fashion, history and memory, using clothing as the common thread between us. Dance artist/choreographer Kelly McInnes, dance artist Rianne Svelnis, drummer Ben Brown, upright bassist/vocalist Roxanne Nesbitt and musical sewing artist Agente Costura investigate their personal relationships with garments and the potential transformation of clothing, in search for rhythm and melody in the movements of a seamstress. A skirt is turned into a dress with just a few cuts and seams, emphasizing spontaneous changes, making music out of making clothes.
Founded by Berlin-based musical sewing artist Lisa Simpson (Agente Costura), dance artist/choreographer Kelly McInnes and drummer Ben Brown, Mine Agente began in July of 2014 during a month-long residency at The HopBopShop in Vancouver, B.C. Mine Agente has enjoyed performances at Emily Carr, Merge, The HopBopShop and ArtsWells with dancers Rianne Svelnis, Sophia Wolfe, Jessica Wilkie, Kaitey Desante and bassist Colin Cowan.
