Event Description

This new series of oil paintings, entitled “Mirror Gaze”, will be displayed at Habit Coffee in March and April. Picard has worked only in pencil and ink until last year. This is his first time displaying his paintings and his first solo show.

With this series, Nick Picard hopes to challenge viewers on their preconceptions of gender in art. He is engaged in gender politics and through his paintings hopes to bring this discussion into the gallery. The paintings will be up from March 4 to April 30, and an opening will be held on the evening of Friday, March 4, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

Habit Coffee showcases a new artist every two months. Its large walls and ample natural light provide an excellent venue for displaying art in a relaxed environment. It is located at 552 Pandora Avenue. Tel. 250-294-1127.

Nick Picard has lived in Victoria for nineteen years. Outside of his artistic practice, he works as a barista and a sign-maker, and teaches hand-lettering.
