An all-star line-up brings together the incendiary Cuban trumpet virtuoso Miguelito Valdes (Herbie Hancock, the Afro-Cuban All-Stars), saxophonist Roy Styffe (Don Thompson), Order of Canada recipient Ian McDougall, guest bassist Russ Botten (Diana Krall) and Kelby MacNayr (Geoffrey Keezer, George Colligan) celebrates the music of one of the most dynamic and influential small groups in jazz history! A deeply swinging band, rooted in Blues and Church music, the Messengers created hip, soulful jazz for the club and concert hall. The Jazz Messengers became a training ground for a host of the greatest up and coming musicians featuring everyone from Clifford Brown to Wynton Marsalis, Jackie McLean to Wayne Shorter, Bobby Timmons, Benny Green the list goes on!

The Messengers penned such classic jazz hits as Moanin', Along Came Betty, the Blues March, Ugetsu, Dat Dere and many more.
