Event Description
Award-winning filmmaker Brian Barnard, has produced the documentary “Every Stitch Counts, Christine's Story” hoping that her story will raise awareness of Mitochondrial disease.
What is Mitochondrial Disease? Mito is an energy crisis at a cellular level, which causes basic body systems and organs to stop working properly. This is a life-threatening disease that has no cure or treatment at this time.
Mitochondrial disease kills more children than all pediatric cancers combined. It is estimated to affect 1 in 4300 people.
Christine Knox, 54, who lives in Victoria B.C., was diagnosed with MITO last year. She was shocked by the lack of information and awareness of Mitochondrial Disease.
As a result of her illness and the stressful ongoing diagnostic process for Mitochondrial Disease, Christine conceived a plan to raise awareness and help others stricken with Mito. Thus, the Mito Quilts of Hope Project was born.
“The film features two of the bravest ladies I have ever met who courageously share their stories with us” Brian Barnard.
The Victoria screening of this Mito Disease documentary film is planned for 7:00pm, September 21, 2015 at Esquimalt High School, 847 Colville Rd Victoria BC.
The filmmaker Brian Barnard and Christine Knox will be in attendance to answer questions after the screening.
