Event Description

ONE WORLD PROMISES A TRANSFORMATIVE EVENT

Victorians will be able to take a trip around the globe without ever leaving home. For one day, 160 students from 80 countries will come together to put on the show of a lifetime. One World, the celebrated theatrical event from Pearson College UWC, takes the stage on March 7, promising an evening of life-changing proportions.

This rare, collaborative showcase brings the music, dance and stories of countries around the world right to Victoria’s doorstep. Yet One World is about more than the nations these students come from — it’s an example of what the students learn by coming to Pearson College UWC, how they interact, and the transformation they undergo by studying and living together for two years.

All students work together to create each aspect of the production — from choreography, writing and costumes to lighting, sound and tech. Audiences can look forward to favourites, like Gumboot, Ukrainian dance and the Pearson College Choir, in addition to new performances, like the evolving spoken word component of the program. As the College celebrates its 40th year, One World has become a symbol of international unity and has highlighted Canada’s role in promoting education as a force to unite.

Pearson College UWC is one of 14 United World Colleges around the globe, and is open to 160 students ages 16-19 from over 80 different countries, including each province and territory of Canada. These students live, study and grow together for two years on a campus in Metchosin. The College opened in 1974, under the mandate of its namesake, Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson, to use education as a force to unite people, nations and culture for peace and a sustainable future.
