Event Description

The Indigenous Youth Arts Program is in full swing at Open Space. Since May, Indigenous youth and artists mentors have been active in exploring different aspects of art practice. Participants are creating short films, finalizing a publication project and still developing media installations.

The public screening and community feast initially planned for November 20th is rescheduled to February 26th, 2016 at 5pm to allow the completion of the artworks.

The Indigenous Youth Arts Program is a free, hands-on program encouraging Indigenous youth to tell their stories while exploring the many facets of media arts: video art, sound art, digital arts. The program is about creating a safe and stimulating gathering place where Indigenous youth and the artist mentors come together to share knowledge and explore Indigenous artistic practices.

Over the past few months participants had the opportunity to workshop with guest artists mentors such as Alanis Obomsawin, Peter Morin, Lillian Allen, Chris Creighton-Kelly and James Luna. Join us at Open Space on February 26, 2016 for a Community Feast at 5:00 p.m. followed by a Public Screening of the participants' work.
