Set in Roman times, the tragic work depicts the self-sacrificial love between a Christian woman and an imperial bodyguard, and features internationally-known soloists soprano Nancy Argenta, mezzo soprano Sarah Fryer, tenor Benjamin Butterfield, baritone Andrew Greenwood and counter-tenor Daniel Taylor. This deeply moving oratorio is a timeless story of spiritual resistance to tyranny and an indictment of persecution, topics that still speak to audiences today.
