OuterSpace Gallery is pleased to present the artwork of SanFrancisco based artist Troy Lovegates and launch his new artist book "SYMINGTON".
OTHER (aka Troy Lovegates) is a nomadic folk artist whose bright paintings criss-cross the globe on the sides of rail cars and appear both large and small on walls around the world. He has called too many places to count home, including Montreal, Berlin, Buenos Aires, Toronto, and, most recently, San Francisco. When not painting on walls he turns his brush and pen to discarded books, aged paper, and scavenged wooden objects, rendering patterned portraits of wizened faces as rough and aged as the surfaces they appear on.

After a busy summer painting large murals, Lovegates spent the winter recuperating. During this time, Lovegates produced an intricate new series of drawings. These sometimes-claustrophobic, black-and-white drawings produced from the floor of his apartment over the course of the winter drastically counter the large, colourful murals created earlier in the year. We are excited to show these drawings from “back prison” side by side with murals Lovegates will be painting at OuterSpace Gallery and in Commercial Alley.
Outerspace Gallery will be participating in the Reclaim the Streets: Symposium on Art in Public Space hosted by Open Space. Troy Lovegates will be in attendance and presenting at the symposium.
