Event Description

Showcasing cool and contemporary music from the north, NorthFest brings you an array of vibrant
music from Yukon’s Diyet and Speed Control with Greenland’s Nive Nielsen. From roots to rock,
indie to alt folk, their songs speak to the diversity of life in the north. Whether recent transplants
or born and raised north of 60°, the north is their home. Listeners will get that throughout the night
as NorthFest features each artist in this one night northern event.

Diyet
(diyetmusic.com)

Born in a tent, raised in a two room cabin, classically trained in opera, now an alternative folk artist.
This sub-Arctic-Southern Tutchone-Japanese-Tlingit-Scottish-Yukoner is your typical Canadian – the
result of a long cold winter. Diyet’s music is like her life – a mix of this and that but deeply rooted in the
values of a traditional northern life. When You Were King, Diyet’s sophomore album released in July 2013,
is lyrically daring and instrumentally inspiring with a diversity. With a resonant voice that conveys emotion
and passion, Diyet is a contemporary artist whose music leaves listeners with a sense of hope and possibility.

Nive Nielsen
(nivenielsen.com)

Nive travels the world sharing her music sometimes solo and sometimes with her band, the Deer Children.
She has garnered much attention and many awards playing Europe’s most prestigious festivals along the way.
Nive is the Official Cultural Ambassador for Greenland. In 2010, she won an Independent Music Award for her
“Pirate Song”. In 2012, she reached the Top 10 International Artists to Watch at South by Southwest and received
the Danish Crown Prince Couple's Stardust Award. Nive has recently joined one of Europe’s most distinctive indie
labels, Glitterhouse Records.

Speed Control
(speedcontrol.ca)

Straight out of – 40 degrees in Canada’s Yukon, Speed Control takes control of the stage with a power that will
make you jump up and dance while knocking your breath away, leaving you saying, “What just happened!?
Dubbed “Parka Punk” by Stuart Derdeyn of The Province newspaper, Speed Control, made up of brothers Graeme (guitar/vox) and Jody Peters (bass/vox), and drummer Ian March, is known for their live shows and their passion for playing hard, fast and real rock! Speed Control was a finalist in the CBC Searchlight Competition for Best New Group
with their song, “Tent City” and are fully endorsed by Yamaha Canada Music.
