Barrie Szekely finds inspiration from walks in his urban environment: "it is here that I get random images, juxtapositions, oddities, repetition; those things we take for granted. It seems that nature in this urban environment reveals itself slowly in bits, in pieces, fragments, something here, something there. This random juxtaposition of nature and urban has become an endless source of invention to be recalled and to be painted. The paintings are visual compost-layers that stall thought, trying to reconcile one item with another".
Barrie Szekely is a graduate of the University of Victoria's MFA program. Since 1978, Barrie has exhibited throughout Canada and the United States. His work can be found in collections such as the Canada Council of Art Bank, Prudential Insurance Company of America, New Orleans Museum of Art and Con West.
