They have sung for a host of luminaries including Barbra Streisand, David Foster, and Josh Groban and have starred in TV specials and radio broadcasts. Now Vancouver’s renowned Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir is preparing to sing for you at Joy to the World! A Gospel Christmas Celebration, December 13, 14, and 15 in what will be a highlight of the holiday season.
“Joy to the World is the title of the beloved Christmas hymn and of our Christmas concerts in this 10th Anniversary Season,” says Gail Suderman, the choir’s Artistic Director and Founder. “It could also describe the mandate and vision I have for Good Noise. For me personally, there is only one word that can describe directing a choir like Good Noise, and that is ‘Joy’.”
Joy to the World includes seasonal favourites like The Little Drummer Boy (given a funky gospel beat) and The Holly and the Ivy (featuring saxophonist Ingrid Stitt in a smooth jazz treatment), Amy Grant’s powerful Emmanuel, gospel arrangements of classic Spirituals, and original Christmas works destined to become favourites. All of it is infused with the choir’s high-energy trademark gospel sound that will have you smiling, singing, and grooving along in your seat. The Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir is thrilled to welcome 2013-2014 Artist in Residence, Crystal Hicks, to Joy to the World. Crystal has been a featured vocalist with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Canadian Tenors, and the Toronto Mass Gospel Choir, and is featured on “Shine the Light” the latest CD by the Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir.
“Bringing joy to the world in this day and age needs to be one of our top priorities as a choir and my personal priority as a director,” exclaims Suderman. “I know there will be much joy experienced in our Christmas concert series as we welcome Crystal, whose great gospel voice is a favourite of so many and whose smile and spirit capture the essence of what we all want to bring this Christmas as we sing – Joy!”
