October 10, 2013 - Ninkasi Brewing Company made a beer forged with the power of rock, the Sleigh'r Double Dark Alt Ale and it seemed only fitting to create an event fit for a metal king. Union Events & Perryscope Concerts bring you SLEIGH'R FEST, this fall's melding of all things beer and metal with the comedic brilliance Brian Posehn. The metal will be provided by three of Vancouver's up and coming metal bands, Expain, Atomis and Anchoress.
Brian Posehn always has a full plate in front of him. He is constantly touring as a stand-up comedian in the best comedy clubs and rock venues in the country. He just released his first hour long special, The Fartist through Netflix. Brian is currently writing Deadpool for Marvel Comics. He has a popular podcast, Nerd Poker on the Earwolf Network.
In the last year he has done guest spots on the sit-coms, Big Bang Theory, Guys With Kids and Anger Management. He also starred for three seasons in Comedy Central's popular show, The Sarah Silverman Program, and toured as one of the original members of the Comedians of Comedy. Besides writing and performing on HBO's acclaimed Mr. Show, he has appeared in sitcoms such as Just Shoot Me, Seinfeld, NewsRadio, Californication, Everybody Loves Raymond and Friends. He also has an extensive resume in voice-acting including Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Adventure Time, Metalocalypse, Bob’s Burgers, Mission Hill and American Dad.
He has written episodes of The Sarah Silverman Program and Metalocalypse (Adult Swim). He’s written for the popular sketch show, Human Giant and various specials and roasts including recent stints on the Oscars and The Comedy Central Roast of Rosanne Barr. In 2009 and 2010 Brian directed a video and a Comedy Central pilot for the hilarious hair metal band, Steel Panther.
2013 will see the release of a book Brian has co-written with Bob Odenkirk and David Cross called Hollywood Said No. He is also currently producing a Comedy Metal album with Scott Ian of Anthrax.
Expain is the perfect band for those lovers of shredding guitar solos, lightening-speed kick drums, bloodcurdling vocals and pant-pissing comedy. So if you’ve found yourself wandering the streets, hopelessly searching for this unique combination of traits in a band, look no further! Hailing from the city of Vancouver, Expain has gathered quite a following as a result of their wildly fun, unpredictable live shows and their online webisode series that can be found on Youtube. Viewers beware, ExpTeeVee may not be suitable for squeamish or easily offended audiences, it is however, highly addictive and is guaranteed to distract one from all responsibilities.
Atomis is a post-rock/experimental band based out of Vancouver/ Calgary, Canada. Incorporating elements of post-metal and shoegaze, each song is carefully crafted to express concern over the state of our current social norms. Having played with influential artist Devin Townsend, or performing distinguished festivals such as Noctis Valkyries Metal Festival, they are an instrumental group that relies heavily on visuals in their live show. What's more: they have abandoned the frontman-centric approach to music. Influences range from bands like Russian Circles and Cult of Luna to Sigur Ros and Mogwai, while fusing elements of ambient music and doom metal. The band has been writing songs about social issues, aiming to capture the mood associated with darker topics such as truck-stop prostitution and animal abuse. Live visuals enhance the listening experience.
Anchoress is a 4 piece hardcore punk band hailing from Vancouver BC. In their short but hectic career so far they have done some real damage in the Vancouver rock community. Starting by signing with the prestigious File Under Music imprint Defiled Under Music, working with the likes of 3 Inches of Blood and Andrew W.K on releases, sharing the stage with Cancer Bats, Devildriver, Gallows, Guttermouth, Agent Orange, Bend Sinister etc and developing their brand under the CrowsNest Vancouver banner. With multiple tours(including international) under their belt and acceptance to the likes of the Victoria Hardcore Fest and Sled Island, the band show no sign of slowing down.
