Event Description
Victoria, B.C. – Pacific Peoples’ Partnership (PPP) is proud to present the 6th annual One Wave Festival on September 7-8th. On September 7th from 12-6pm, this free, family-friendly festival in Victoria’s Centennial Square will showcase North and South Pacific dance and drumming from the Pearls of the South Pacific and Our Culture Matters, as well as dance demos by Vibestreet Dance. The day will also feature musical performances by Vancouver-based Buckman Coe, Pauline Edwards, and Char, with poetry and spoken word from host Janet Marie Rogers. On September 8th, PPP is hosting a free Changemakers’ Brunch including workshops on social media and movement building for youth and students in downtown Victoria.
One Wave Festival celebrates our connections to the Pacific and inspires action on issues that affect Pacific communities, including food and water security, climate change, and ocean stewardship. The square will bustle with live interactive art projects, a children’s area, food vendors, local artists, and community groups dedicated to these areas of action. Don’t miss the Message in a Bottle station, where you can send your own message to communities across the Pacific!
The Changemakers’ Brunch will be held at 12pm at the PPP office, located at #407-620 View St. Local community groups with links to the Pacific will share knowledge and strategies for organizing, with workshops on utilizing social media as a tool for change and building an inclusive and diverse movement. This is a free event and includes lunch. All are welcome; please RSVP to [email protected] More information about this event can be found at www.pacificpeoplespartnership.org/onewave2013.
