Event Description
Drum Victoria welcomes African music sensations, Weedie Braimah and Amadou Kouyate, revered as being among the best African musicians touring North America today. Weedie and Amadou last played in Victoria to a packed house at the McPherson Theatre, making this Friday's more intimate show at the White Eagle Hall a unique opportunity to take in this exceptional performance. The Victoria Percussion Orchestra and the UVic African Music Ensemble, both led by Drum Victoria’s Jordan Hanson, will open with high energy traditional African arrangements before the audience settles in for an eclectic set by the headliners, that may range from a bass heavy traditional piece to a simmering rendition of Bill Withers’ ”Ain’t No Sunshine” performed masterfully on traditional African instruments.
