After ten years in the Vancouver music scene before moving to Toronto in 2009, Morgan Childs has built an international career as a performer working with some of the world’s finest musicians including Phil Dwyer, Zach Brock, Ingrid Jensen, Brad Turner, Richard Whiteman, Ross Taggart, Bernie Senensky and many others. Morgan is highly regarded for his deep swing feel, sensitivity, versatility and musicality, as well as his reverence for jazz history and wide-ranging musical vocabulary.
Recipient of three Galaxy Rising Stars - Vancouver International Jazz Festival (2006, 2007, 2008) and two Montréal Jazz Festival Grand Prix du Jazz with Amanda Tosoff (2009) and Robi Botos (2012). Childs' unique blend of forward-looking, contemporary instincts with his warm, vintage sound aesthetic and thorough understanding of the jazz tradition will be showcased on his upcoming album which he is touring in 2013.
Childs' current group features three other musicians from Toronto with equally impressive pedigrees: the multi-award-winning saxophonist Kelly Jefferson fronts the group, with former Boss Brass pianist Dave Restivo and one of Toronto's most in-demand bassists, Jon Maharaj. Their blend of sophistication and soul is a rare and unique treat!
