Langham Court Theatre is proud to present David Lindsay-Abaire’s Pulitzer Prize-winning drama 'Rabbit Hole', directed by Langham Court veteran Sylvia Rhodes, (The Odd Couple-Female Version). Set Design by Toshik Bukowiecki, Lighting Design by Carol-Anne Moore. 'Rabbit Hole' Previews Wednesday, March 7, Opens Thursday, March 8 and runs through to Saturday, March 24, 2012.
Lindsay-Abaire describes his own family as “very blue collar” – his mother was a factory worker and his father worked for the Chelsea fruit market. After seven years of public schools, he received a six-year scholarship to Milton Academy, a New England prep school. It was there he first became interested in writing for the theatre. The American playwright and lyricist explained his plays as focusing around “outsiders in search of clarity.”
'Rabbit Hole' premiered in February 2006 at Manhattan Theatre Club’s Biltmore Theatre on Broadway and garnered five Tony nominations. The Pulitzer Prize Board - even though 'Rabbit Hole' was not originally nominated - voted to consider 'Rabbit Hole' and ultimately awarded it the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Drama!
'Rabbit Hole' tells the story of Becca and Howie, a married couple whose four-year-old son, Danny, was killed in a car accident eight months earlier. Their relationship begins to unravel as they endeavour to cope and are unable to resolve their different ways of grieving. Hope is reignited when Jason, the teenage boy driving the car that killed Danny, comes into their lives. A drama of what comes after tragedy, 'Rabbit Hole' captures “the awkwardness and pain of thinking people faced with an unthinkable situation, and eventually, their capacity for survival.” (USA Today)
Langham’s cast include Lorene Cammiade as Becca; Kate Harter as Izzy; Eric Holmgren as Howie; Gloria Snider as Nat and Malcolm McLaren as Jason.
