Galiano Ensemble Performs English Suites: The Galiano Ensemble of Victoria

Event Description

The Galiano Ensemble of Victoria is offering an evening of English suites which continues a tradition of dedicating one concert each year to English music. The program includes Edward Elgar’s rarely played Great Malvern Suite, arranged for strings; Percy Grainger’s tunes for strings – Irish Tune from County Derry, Mock Morris and Molly on the Shore; Gustav Holst’s Brook Green Suite; and John Ireland’s A Downland Suite. Conductor Yariv Aloni has a personal affinity to English music and has stated that “the real beauty for me is to see the great understating and knowledge English composers have for the string orchestra sound.”
