BLAST Vancouver is a fundraiser and clubnight for the Deaf community & serious clubbers as light, vibration and pitch blend for a totally unique experience. Based on a London, UK concept of a Deaf Rave, BLAST will take the nightclub experience to a whole new level a level beyond sound.
With all of the proceeds going to support B.C deaf charities and organizations, such as Greater Vancouver Association for the Deaf, BC Deaf Sports Federation, and Douglas College school of Interpreting, this event will integrate both the Deaf and hearing community, and increase Deaf awareness in British Columbia. The key difference between a regular clubbing event and one for the Deaf is sheer volume and variation of music enabling a vibration sensation. Different music is selected so that some people will hear vocals, some will hear bass, some will feel beat, and others will hear high-pitched sounds.
With the support of Sonar nightclub, August 18th 2004 will be the first BLAST-type event in Canada. Local D.Js and musical acts are donating their time and talent to make this the ultimate sensation, for both hearing and Deaf individuals. The line-up includes Vancouver-natives DJ Leanne, Eve & Motomasa, ill-esha, Johnny Fever, and electronica act, Inject. Also expect to see several transition acts, such as breakdancers, go-go dancers, light shows, door prizes and other sensory accessories. The event will include a number of Deaf-friendly features: signing interpreters, a number system for ordering drinks, a well-lit chat room to meet and greet in sign and other additions that will make this nightclub experience a memorable for everyone.
August 18th 2004 at Sonar, 66 Water St in Vancouver. Doors open at 8:30pm (+19), NO DELAYS (first DJ performs at 9:00pm SHARP). Tickets are $10 (includes free shooter). Proceeds are going to support BC Deaf organizations and educational programs.
