Event Description

To launch his album, Love, Heartache & Oblivion, Folk Thief will be
hosting a CD release party at the Railway Club with special guests Blind God
and Carolyn Mark. Folk Thief is the latest incarnation of Dave Hadgkiss, an indie singer/songwriter based right here in Vancouver. Influenced by the likes of Townes Van Zandt, Bob Dylan, and Nirvana, Folk Thief is excited to be bringing his brand of heartfelt acoustic folk/pop to Vancouver, and soon, across Canada.
Love, Heartache & Oblivion’s sparse instrumentation and honest, heartfelt lyrics create a genre defying effort. Co-produced and recorded by Mike Cashin (Western Telegraph, Michael Bublé) at the Recording Room in east Vancouver, the album explores some of life's most powerful experiences with love songs like “Heart Beat” and “Brand New Love,” to the intense and frighteningly beautiful, “The Devil Behind Me”. Folk Thief says, “I write songs about love, heartache, death, fear, anxiety... I’m just crafting sound in an attempt to convey emotional truth.”

blind god is a duo act whose sound is reminiscent of mississippi john hurt, john lee hooker and the creators of the great delta blues. bringing the music to the 21st century with deep ecclectic drum beats. inspired by the music of wilson pickett, sly and the family stone and other raw soul and rock and roll inspiration. dave olajide has refined his sound for the past 10 years working with drummer ray garraway, blind god is poised to bring the heart of the low down underground blues to the next
