FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Hip Hop Upping-the-Anti with Lyrical Force
Conspire to liberate? Crash the meeting? This April 3rd Solstice Café
will host one of the most dynamic hip-hop/spoken word shows this year,
featuring Toronto’s most notorious revolutionary hip-hop artists,
Testament and Illogik, currently on tour with their long awaited debut
album. Together, they call themselves “Test Their Logik,” and they
were reunited after 5 months of state-enforced conditions of
non-association. The duo was charged with conspiracy and other
indictable offences after their music video, “Crash The Meeting,”
which encouraged resistance to Toronto’s G20 summit, went viral.
Joining “Test Their Logik” is Savage Fam, a hard-hitting Indigenous
hip-hop artist from the occupied territories known as Washington
State. Savage Fam embraces the art of lyricism and spoken word as a
useful means to spread messages of hope, pride, and empowerment into
Indigenous communities. Also on set is Mother Tareka, part of a
FUNKtioning hip hop machine Unidentified Funky Objects from Hamilton.
His new solo project, “He found brick inedible,” is an abstract
musical look into his immigrant experience that confronts
neo-colonialist misogyny, and capitalist dogma. Joining the show is
Cleo Madelaine, whose hard beatboxing is matched by her smooth
harmonies and soulful, revolutionary lyrics to “change your mind,” and
Comrade Black, green-anarcho-feminist spoken-word poet. Special guest
host MC Andrea Coates –poet, performer and writer – will be presiding
throughout the evening.
Come out to experience the power of words and rhythms to inspire
radical transformation and freedom.
