EDWARD POWELL & NIEL GOLDEN - CROSS CULTURAL DUO, A unique combination of Indian and Turkish classical music presented in a modern way
Edward Powell is a pioneering musician from Vancouver now based in the Czech Republic. Although widely recognized as an accomplished sitarist and oud player, Edward now mostly plays an instrument that he conceived of, designed, and constructed himself. This instrument is called a RAGMAKAMTAR and is essentially a combination of Turkish oud, and Indian sarod, and a fretless guitar. (see www.edwardpowell.com for more details).
Niel Golden has been a fixture on the local Victoria music scene since 1986 and has an impressive list of recording and performing credentials including playing on three Juno and two Western Canadian Music award nominated CD’s. Niel will be playing the traditional North Indian drums known as TABLA, and a new instrument invented in the year 2000 called the HANG, pronounced hung (see www.nielgolden.com for more details).
