Event Description

. Saturday, May 8th IMU presents ELEPHANT TRAIN, The SWILLS, DESERT RADIO & BADASSKATOON @ The Railway Club, 579 Dunsmuir . Doors 9pm / Cover $10 @ the door

ELEPHANT TRAIN has been around for nearly two years, gaining a respectable following by playing shows throughout Vancouver. Their sound touches on a wide variety of genres and styles, combining funky licks that make the girls cry with a solid, lickity-split havoc that brings out the boogie in people. Quickly gathering speed with a new EP of studio recordings, Elephant Train delivers a strong, enthusiastic live show full of funky, original rock. http://www.myspace.com/ElephantTrain

The SWILLS - Combining killer heavy riffs with catchy melodies, kick-ass rhythms, and songs that actually have something to say, The Swills are the perfect solution to the mundane modern rock blues! http://www.myspace.com/TheSwills

DESERT RADIO's original combination of Americana, Classic & Southern Rock is the soundtrack of a road trip to Juarez in a '68 Dodge where Merle Haggard, The Who and Elvis Costello all play on the mix tape stuck in the dashboard deck. A few years ago, old friends were looking for an excuse to hang out, drink lots of beer and write some great, country-flavoured rock 'n' roll, and one thing led to another and they soon found themselves playing shows and recording tracks. "February Day" (from their recently released debut album) became the number one ranked Americana genre song in the history of garageband.com, leading to features on Budweiser.com as well as NASCAR's use of the track in a Speed Channel video tribute to Dale Earnhardt Sr. that was broadcast throughout North America. http://www.myspace.com/DesertRadio

BADASSKATOON - Imagine a southern redneck Trailer Park Boys version of Flight Of The Conchords and you kinda get an idea of what this comedic country duo deliver. Un-PC humour in all it's wrongness abounds when these country troubadours hit the stage with their tongues firmly lodged in their cheeks, in equal turns shocking their fans into both aghast silence and unhinged laughter.
