Event Description

"Visions From the Farm" Tour The Karl Schwonik Quartet
KARL SCHWONIK drums, CHRIS ANDREW piano, KODI HUTCHINSON bass, BRENT MAH sax.
Alberta born, award-winning drummer Karl Schwonik will be embarking on his 5th tour of Canada as a leader this coming January. 24 year old Schwonik has quickly established himself as "...one of Canada's youngest, hardest working and most creative musicians..." In 2009 alone, Schwonik was featured nationally by CBC Radio 2 as a part of a new series "NEXT: Canada's Music Future", was featured nationally on CBC's "Canada Live!" and was the winner of the VSA Arts International Young Soloist Award, and was the youngest person named to Avenue magazine's "Top 40 Under 40" in Calgary for 2009.
Schwonik's 2010 "Visions From the Farm" tour is in support of his upcoming recording by the same name. The title is a play on words, combining Schwonik's rural upbringing and his visual impairment. Each song is programmatic. For example, "Motorhomes/Green Line" is a commentary on his journey from the simple life of the farm to the bustling metropolis of Montreal.
Education is a major component of Schwonik's tours and this January will be no different. The group is very excited to be giving over 20 clinics and workshops with aspiring musicians ranging from the elementary to University level.
Schwonik's upcoming book "The Emerging Artist" is due to be completed in late 2010.
