The Urbana Big Band is back for another evening of swingin' jazz,
featuring a wide variety of styles from Ellington classics to contemporary charts by top Canadian and international composers, including Buddy Rich, Count Basie, Lennie Niehaus, and Gordon Goodwin. The band will be under the direction of renowned local jazz musician and music educator, Robin Shier.
Urbana Big Band consists of members from The Arokis Centre for Music Society, a registered non-profit society which was founded in 1989 in British Columbia by Ray Sikora. The Centre provides an environment for musicians young and old to play and perform swing, Latin and jazz music under the guidance of professional musical directors. The Society performs publicly under the names of both Impressions and Urbana big bands.
